Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has announced that the Nairobi Regeneration Project will officially begin today (Monday, 10th March).
Speaking in Eastleigh, while accompanying President William Ruto on a weeklong development tour of Nairobi, Kindiki said the initiative aims to clean the Nairobi Rivers and improve the city’s sewerage system.
He noted that the project would help prevent contamination-related health risks and reduce disruptions caused by floods.
The government has already made progress in rehabilitating the Nairobi Rivers, with 69 km of the river basin cleared and 56 km leveled.
Additionally, 272,000 seedlings have been planted, and 268 tree nurseries established to support conservation efforts.
President Ruto, who has been vocal about environmental restoration, has urged Nairobi’s MPs to put aside political differences and back the initiative.
He described the project as a crucial step in enhancing the city’s status and ensuring a cleaner, healthier environment.
